WE SCARE BECAUSE WE’RE CLAIRE
My daughter has been a HUGE Monsters Inc. fan since she was probably 2 or 3. She has dressed up as Boo for Halloween several times. She chose Boo to be her theme for her 6th birthday. It has been hard to find Boo items – Sully and Mike Wazowski were easy to find because Monsters University was released the year before. They re-released some Boo items just before the new movie was released in June of 2013, so I was able to find a few Boo items here and there. My kids’ birthdays are 4 weeks apart, so we usually throw one combined party for the 2 of them right in the middle. Since they now have their own school friends too, we typically have a small glamourized playdate party on their actual birthdays and then a small combined party with close friends and family in between their birthdays. This party had 6 guests.
I made the invitations in Microsoft Word. I inserted shapes to make the card look like Boo’s closet door, and then added flower stickers to look like Boo’s door. I flipped the card over and printed the details on the reverse side.
I used Claire’s favorite stuffed animals for decorations. She already had the old figurine set from Disney Store. I printed up some Google Images of Boo’s drawings from the movie and framed a “WE SCARE BECAUSE WE’RE CLAIRE” sign I made.
I added foam flowers (from The Dollar Tree) to the doors in the room (and front door) to look like Boo’s closet door.
I made a banner to match the invitations and added pink paper flower garland at The Dollar Tree.
I melted green candy melts on square pretzels and added a Wiltons candy eyeball to look like Mike Wazowski.
I made s’more doors out of graham crackers, Jet Puffed Marshmallow Cream, and Hershey’s chocolates.
Claire did not want a cake so I made sugar cookies and decorated them with pink and purple frosting and sprinkles that matched the characters (purple and pink for Boo and green, blue, and purple for Sully and Mike).
The kids made their own snack mix for the movie at the snack mix bar – popcorn, marshmallows, M&Ms, goldfish, pretzels, raisins and Monsters University gummy fruit snacks.
The kids made Mike Wazowskis out of a green plate and 2 circles.
I collected moving boxes for the kids to make cars for a drive in movie (and then had to explain what a Drive In Movie is!). The kids really enjoyed making their own cars. We watched Monsters Inc with pizza and snacks from the snack mix bar.
This was the find of the century! After Christmas, Target had these fabulous large stuffed Boos (regular Boo and Monster Boo) on clearance. I stalked the clearance rack until they were about $5 each (75% off!) and scored them as party favors!
This was a fun party to throw with a really fun theme. The challenge was finding Boo/girly oriented items vs the typical Sully and Mike/boy party supplies.
